In 2014, I was commissioned by the Willie Stargell Foundation to paint this portrait for his celebrity invitational in Wilmington, NC. One of the toughest portraits I’ve done, as Willie’s face was shadowed by the bill of his cap. I also had a tough time drawing his face because it was at the very top of the board, which was 40″ in height. I found myself having to work standing up and leaning way over the board. I tried working upside down, but that made it difficult to capture the accuracy of Willie’s facial features and likeness. I’m grateful that it all worked out in the end!
Commissioned mixed media sports portrait sold at a charity auction.
